Run to reduce road trauma

Road Trauma Support Services Victoria (RTSSV) is fortunate to be the recipient of the proceeds from the Alpine Challenge to be held on 19-21 March 2011.

Taking in some of Victoria's best high country, with over 7,000 meters of ascent and descent, this run is the classic 100 mile mountain challenge and will test participants to the limit as it traverses some of the hardest and most exposed areas of the Australian Alps.

Memorial Project - August 2010

In 2007 representatives of Road Trauma Support Services met with the Hon Tim Holding, Minister for Transport Accident Commission, to discuss the need for a permanent memorial site/concept in recognition of the loss of life and injury on Victorian roads. As a result, initial funding from TAC has been provided to further this aim. A Steering Committee, including Jeanette Suhr OAM, has been established, and a series of community consultations has commenced.

In 2009 the Road Trauma Memorial Project commenced. Its purpose is to establish a response within Victoria which acknowledges the enormous loss of life and serious injury as a result of road crashes. The Uniting Church in conjunction with Road Trauma Support Services, with initial support from the Transport Accident Commission, has been developing this initiative.

By 30 June consultations with affected groups and individuals will be completed. Forums have been held with both metropolitan and rural communities, and a range of online feedback has also been received.
